Liturgy at Saint Mary's

Saint Mary’s liturgy embodies the richness of the Anglican tradition and incorporates the full range of liturgical resources found in the Book of Common Prayer and supplemental sources such as Enriching Our Worship, Lesser Feasts and Fasts, and the Book of Occasional Services. Our liturgy is enriched by music from the 1982 Hymnal, as well as Wonder, Love and Praise, and Lift Every Voice and Sing.

Saint Mary's worship is eucharisitcally centered. A simple Rite I Eucharist without music is celebrated at 8 am, while the 10 am service is Rite II with organ and choir. On 5th Sundays, Rite I is celebrated at the 10 am service. At 5 pm on Saturdays, a more informal Eucharist (either Rite II or EOW) with music is celebrated.

The Eucharist is celebrated several times during the week as well. On alternate Tuesdays, men from the congregation meet for Eucharist, breakfast and discussion at 7 am. On Wednesdays at 10 am is a service of Holy Eucharist with Healing. Thursday mornings at 7:30 am parishioners gather for Eucharist, breakfast and discussion.

Music at Saint Mary's

The David E. Allen Organ is a 20-stop mechanical-action instrument in Baroque style built by Karl Wilhelm, Inc. (Opus 109, 1986) of Quebec, Canada and named in honor of The Rev. David E. Allen (Rector, 1979-2001).

St. Mary's Church Choirs invite newcomers to join them at any time during the year. The Adult Choir (high school and older) rehearses on Wednesdays at 7 PM. The Community Choir, which welcomes singers of all ages and abilities and sings once a month, rehearses Sundays immediately following the 10 am service.

The Parish Music Committee is a broadly representative group of parishioners appointed by the Rector and reporting to the Vestry. The purpose of the Music Committee is to assist in building a music program that meets the needs of the parish and raises the awareness and perception of St. Mary's as a regional leader in liturgical music.

The Friends of Music exists to support the music program, particularly in its outreach to the community. The Friends have enabled us to purchase or commission new anthems, to hire professional soloists on special occasions, and to pay for recent major repairs to the organ. Donors at the level of $25 and higher are recognized publicly and invited to attend special events without charge.
