The Reverend Stephen V. Smith became the 6th rector of Saint Mary's in October, 2004. Steve has been a priest since 1982, serving Episcopal churches in MN and MA, most recently as Rector of St. John's Church, Westwood, MA.
A native of Massachusetts growing up in Newton, Steve married Jeanette Hanlon in 1979 and they have three grown children, Jamie, Martin and Colleen. Jeanette,a graduate of Harvard Divinity School and licensed social worker, has a private practice in psychotherapy, spiritual direction, consulting and coaching in Mashpee. Steve has a variety of interests including biking, hiking and painting. More recently, he is being tutored in the art of salt water fly-fishing. He relishes this opportunity to be in the natural splendor of Cape Cod and called to this ministry at St. Mary's.

The Rev. Dr. Kristina D. Lewis (Kris) , a 2005 graduate of The General Theological Seminary in New York City, joined the staff as Assistant Rector in July, 2005.
A cradle Episcopalian born in North Carolina, Kris' first career was as a stay-at-home mom. Her second career was in academia. After receiving a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology in 1994, from the University of Florida, she taught at Saint Michael's College in Colchester, VT for eight years.
As a layperson, Kris worked on Christian education, adult spiritual formation, liturgy, and outreach, as well as participating in community outreach programs. During seminary she worked as an intern at St. Luke in the Fields in Greenwich Village. Kris has three adult children, Derrick, Devon, and Megan, and a teenage son, Christopher.

Joan M. Kirchner Saint Mary's Minister of Music, is a native of Western New York, where she attended Houghton College, graduating with degrees in Business Administration and Church Music. She earned her Masters degree in Church Music and Organ Performance from Indiana University and has also studied at the Eastman School of Music. Joan has served churches in Indiana, North Carolina, Nantucket, and Wellfleet. She is well-known on Cape and in the Boston area as a professional soprano, performing as a soloist for oratorio, opera, and varied recital repertoire from medieval to gospel to American Songbook standards. A co-founder of the Renaissance group OYEZ!, Joan enjoys early music, and has sung with the Handel & Haydn Society and the Tafelmusik Chamber Choir in Toronto. When she first moved to the Cape in the mid-90’s she was very active in the Community Theater circuit as a music director but found the late nights tiring! She teaches voice, piano, and flute at her home in Brewster, where she also enjoys gardening, writing, pets, and hopes someday to return to quilting and other sewing.

Barbara O. Hersey, Church School Coordinator Born in Manhattan, Barbara grew up in Centerville, MA and Cuba, NY. A cradle Episcopalian and Priest’s Kid, Barbara participated in all the church had to offer. She attended Syracuse University, went to London for a semester, and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Illustration in ‘95. After graduation she traveled in Asia, taught English for a year in Seoul, Korea and lived in New York City before returning to the Cape.Barbara joined Saint Mary's staff as Church School Director in January, 2000. In 2005, her position was redefined adn expanded and she now shares the role of Co-Coordinator with Connie Sullivan. Barbara and husband Mike have two boys Matthew, 5 and Joshua, 3. Barbara’s work at St. Mary’s, calls on all her talents and experiences as the most challenging, constant and loving force in her life. An artist on Cape Cod, Barbara continues to paint murals and portraits.

Connie Sullivan, Church School Coordinator A true Cape Codder, Connie was born in Falmouth and has lived in Harwich Port, South Yarmouth, Dennis Port, and now resides in Marstons Mills with her husband of 18 years, Brian, and their daughter Shannon, 10 and son Liam, 5. She received her B.A. cum laude from Wellesley College in 1986 with a major in Sociology. After college, Connie worked her way up the retail management ladder for eight years at Bradlees . In 1995, she became a full time mom and joined her daughter in baptism at Christ Church in Harwich Port, the long-time church of her family. In 2002, after a year-long confirmation class at St. Mary's, she joined the church fully and continued to teach Church School. Connie joined the staff in 2005 and works alongside her ever-giving mentor and friend, Barbara Hersey in the role of Christian Education Co-Coordinator.
