In 1986, at a time of renovation of the sanctuary, to facilitate the spirit of shared ministry between the clergy and the laity; a 20-stop mechanical-action instrument in Baroque style was built and installed in St. Mary’s church by Karl Wilhelm of Mont Ste. Hillaire, Quebec, Canada.
In 2002, on the retirement of the Rev. David E. Allen after 24 years of service to St. Mary’s, the organ was named in his honor.
St. Mary’s Choirs are always open to new members! These groups focus on basic vocal training and accessible music. The Adult Choir is comprised of singers with more musical experience, rehearsing Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm and Sundays at 9:00am. During the summer, the Summer Choir rehearses only at 9:00am on Sunday mornings for the 10:00am service. This choir provides the principal musical leadership for the 10:00am service as well as special services such as Evensongs and concerts throughout the year. Children’s and Youth Choir rehearse at 11:15 a.m. on Sundays following the 10 o'clock service.
Taize Worship: On the first Saturday of each month St. Mary's is holding a Taize Worship service at the 5:00 p.m. service. This style of worship comes from Taize, Fance where there is an interfaith Christian community. This style of worship is a very contemplative style marked by long periods of silence, meditation, and singing a unique form of music that comes from Taize. Here at St. Mary's Taize is presented in the context of the Holy Eucharist. I invite you all to come and experience this meditative service. Anyone who plays a musical instrument can also participate in the music. Please contact Dan Romero about participating in the music for Taize. For more information about the Taize community, visit their website.
