Welcome
At Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church we welcome everyone, affirming our baptismal covenant in which we promise “to seek and serve Christ in all persons,” and “to respect the dignity of every human being.” You may have a particular reason for seeking a church community; perhaps you are a visitor to the Cape, or are “shopping” for a church home, or simply curious about Saint Mary’s or the Episcopal Church. What ever draws you to us, we welcome you.
Our Mission: St. Mary's is a community of faith striving to live intentionally as the Body of Christ in the world. We express our faith through worship, spiritual formation, care for others, and responsible stewardship of all our resources. We base our worship on the richness and diversity of Anglican liturgy and music. We provide opportunities and resources to guide the spiritual development of our multigenerational congregation. We reach out to help fulfill the material needs of those in our local community and beyond. We invite everyone to participate in the life of our community through sharing their time, talents, and tangible resources. |
Is Membership Required to Attend Services?
No. Everyone is welcome to worship at Saint Mary’s. |
Taking the Next Step
At some point you may wish to make a formal commitment to the church. This is a significant step on a journey of faith. It brings you into fellowship with fellow pilgrims and fosters a community that provides a safe place to ask questions and listen for the voice of God. In addition, membership entitles you to serve on committees, vote at Annual Meeting, or to be married at Saint Mary’s. We hope all who consider Saint Mary’s their spiritual home will make a formal commitment and become a member. |
| Membership at Saint Mary’s is open to all baptized Christians. We most sincerely welcome every individual into our community without regard to race, color, national origin, ancestry, gender, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation or previous religious affiliation |
How Do I Become a Member?
If you have been a member of another Episcopal Church, simply ask that parish for a letter of transfer; when we receive that letter it will make you an official member of Saint Mary’s. If you have never been a member of any church, or come from another denomination, you may wish to speak to the clergy or join our Inquirer’s Class, designed to help you determine if you would like to be baptized, received, or confirmed in the Episcopal Church. |
What is Expected of Members?
Members are encouraged to participate regularly in worship services and in the activities and mission of the parish, and to provide financial support for the ministry of the parish through annual pledging. Saint Mary’s offers a variety of ways to become involved: our music, our gardens, programs for formation and for fellowship, and a wide variety of ministries. It is our hope that everyone (newcomers, established members, and the simply curious) will take advantage of these opportunities. In doing so, both our individual and corporate lives are enriched. |
